Carlow, Ireland, June 2001

The oldest festival in Ireland commissioned Theatr Cynefin to transform a disused carpet warehouse into something spectacular.  We knocked down walls, created arbors, made a tree house, tunnels and a slide into a giant pile of shoes.  Among other experiences.

“I have revisited my whole life in 20 minutes”

“This experience gave me the opportunity to take time out and think about the most important things in my life.  I now appreciate them more.”

I feel purged – ready to star a new life – all existence up to now has been eradicated – ready to start anew in complete innocence as a child.”

“I feel as if I have been told something which I know in my heart.  Putting the knowledge into practice is the difficult part.  Maybe if I could travel through the Labyrinth every day it would help.  I’ll just have to hold on to the memories.  This project deserves lots of support.  We should set up a permanent one.  Thank you all for giving us this experience.”

“All I can say is that I want to go back.”

“I went through with my eight year old daughter.  She was very scared of the dark at first and pushed me to go in front, but half way through she relaxed and went first even through the dark areas.  I’m glad about that.”

“…feel I am complete in some way.”

“Very sad – brought back many memories.  The ‘forgiving’ – it is time for me to forgive…”

“Very deep experience, confusion and knowledge, together both seem right.  A unique experience.”

“Peaceful.  Parts of it bring back your childhood in a way pictures or video can’t.”

“Joy, sorrow, frightened, excited, calm I think I felt all I could or can.  It was incredible.”

“I travelled from Dublin to here on the way to Galloway.  After going through it I would travel across the world to experience it.”

“I guess this whole thing has made me see my life.  I don’t know how but it all ties together with things that I have done growing and in the future. Thank you very much.”

“The words of Julian of Norwich come to mind – “And all shall be well, all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.”

“Feel great, really enjoyed it.  It lived up to everything I heard from other people.”

“I caught a glimpse of the part of me that I love today…It has been affirmed for me today that I can depend on myself, that I can love myself and feel comfortable with myself…Thank you so much for this experience.”
